5 Winter Wardrobe Essentials

The days are short, the air is chilly, and I’m walking around the city, gloves on, hat snug, and hot cocoa in hand. After a decade here, I’ve finally gotten my NYC winter wardrobe essentials down. Check out my favorites below—and some items I’m currently coveting—in all price ranges!

Thick Knits

Living in New York, it’s essential to invest in some warm, quality sweaters and cardigans that will last for years to come. I love a classic cable knit pattern or solid cashmere in neutral colors. This year, the breton stripe trend really got me!

Cozy Scarves

Even with all the layers of winter wear, I can’t go out without a warm scarf, preferably oversized, to give me extra warmth. Knitted, pashmina, cashmere… I’ll take them all!

Tailored Trousers

I’ll always prefer wide-legged trousers over jeans. They’re so classic and elevate even the most casual looks! Plus they’re easier to wear a cozy pair of leggings under in the chilly weather. Layering is essential for the frigid New York winters, and not mentioned on this list, but an absolute essential includes thick, long socks.

Chunky Soled Boots

Much needed for the snowier days, trekking through that fine New York slush. Extra points if they have a fuzzy lining! I’ve been wearing my Steve Madden pair that’s linked below (exact dupe of the Bottega ones) for a few years now. They are so versatile and perfect for navigating the slippery sidewalks.

Warm Jackets

Listen, in this weather, it’s always going to be warmth and comfort over looking cute. Lucky for us, there are plenty of cute and warm options now outside of a classic winter parka.
