The Best Face Cleansers for Every Skin Type

The foundation of a quality skincare routine is a good face cleanser. As someone with combination skin I have to rotate cleansers depending on the season and what my skin needs at the time. My skin gets so dry in these New York winters! On the other hand, if I use too much of an oil-based cleanser in the summer, I’ll break out easily. And then there’s being careful with what cleanser to use if I’m also using retinol as part of my routine.

I also have a few rules I strictly follow when cleansing my face, the first one being absolutely NO makeup wipes. They are harmful for the environment, do a horrible job wiping off makeup, and damage your skin with all the rubbing and pulling. Another rule I follow is to double cleanse, beginning with a cleansing balm. Cleansing balms are rich in moisturizing emollients and remove makeup very well. If I have on really heavy makeup, I’ll use an oil cleanser, which is extra gentle on the face.

I’ve been through every cleanser on the market—in both high and low price points—and rounded up my favorites for you here!
