Simple Cheese Platter 101
Hosting guests is one of my absolute favorite things to do. My space is small, but I still love treating my friends with cute spreads for the occasional movie night or Bachelor viewing party. One of my go-to snacks is simple, but elegant cheese platters. Cheese boards can be made in under 10 minutes, are super affordable, and the possibilities are endless when it comes to flavor! First things first, invest in a quality board and some cheese knives ahead for your kitchen—adulting.
Cheese platters should typically have four types of cheese: soft, semi-soft, semi-hard and hard. In the platter I created I above, I have three because it was only for me and one other person and I didn’t want to waste any food. 🙂
Next up, add some crackers! My absolute favorite crackers that I ALWAYS have stocked in my pantry are from these ones Simple Mills. Don’t be afraid to add a condiment or two like honey, jam, or even mustard. Finally, go crazy with fruits, nuts, berries, figs, grapes, and olives! Olives are a MUST for me! For a bonus, add a couple herbs, sprigs, or leaves for a stylistic touch. Lastly, I don’t have any on this board, but cured meats like prosciutto, salami, and paté are always a delicious crowd pleaser!
My very favorite cheese (pictured above) is truffle, specifically Pecorino Truffle! I buy mine at Whole Foods and go through about two small blocks a month. In my opinion, pecorino is superior to parmesan. Next time you’re at a restaurant and they offer grated cheese for your pasta, ask if they have pecorino instead of parmesan. Trust me! 😉
What are some of your favorite cheese platter must haves?
